Hey Betas!

T-Shirts:

The t-shirt order form is officially up on the sidebar. If you are ordering a t-shirt, please make sure you have or will pay before we order, or we cannot order you a shirt. The shirts cost $7, and the design is in the post below this one. Beta members going to convention MUST buy a t-shirt, because we will be wearing them at some point during convention.

Volunteer Opportunities:

The NHS debate team is hosting a tournament at Northview on Saturday, November 12. Ms. Ulrich and Ms. Edwards need people to help set up on Friday after school and to work at the tournament on Saturday. If you are interested, please see Ms. Ulrich in room 506 for more information.

If you decide to go, you must check in with Grace Hsu or Jennifer Wang on Friday and Grace, Jennifer, Cathy An, or Sharon Zhang on Saturday to make sure you get your hours signed.

Convention:

Convention sign-ups will be closed soon! If you haven’t signed up for an event or the skit yet and want to do so, please email us at nhsbeta2012@gmail.com with your name and the event/skit for which you want to sign up for. We will put out a convention list with the names of everyone who has signed up soon.

Fall Hours:

Don’t forget, 15 fall hours are due at the end of the semester!

T-SHIRT SIZE FORM IS ON THE SIDEBAR————————->

Hey Guys!

For those of you who missed the first meeting, here’s the t-shirt design for this year!

T-shirts are 7 dollars (so just add 7 dollars to your dues), and if you have an inkling of a feeling that you may want to go to convention, t-shirts are REQUIRED. Also, cool kids get t-shirts, just sayin’.

Here’s the front….

The back is the same font used in B-E-T-A and is “Let us Lead by Serving Others”

See you guys (and gals) the 19th at the meeting!

Meeting Recap 8/31

Hey guys,
Just wanted to give all of you a recap of what happened at today’s meeting.
If you have not done so already, please register yourself here. If you are a 9th grader, you must register as a new member even if you were in Junior Beta in middle school.
Hours and dues are due by the next meeting, which is tentatively set for Wednesday, September 21 at 8 am. Yes, we have changed the time to accommodate Student Council, so that will no longer be an excuse for not coming to meetings. Just a reminder: meetings are mandatory. You must sign in at the meeting and are only allotted 2 absences before you will be put on probation. Members on probation must do 3 extra hours for that semester.

For hours– returning members have 10 summer hours due by the next meeting. For new members, you do not have to do these. however everyone needs 15 hours for both the fall and spring semesters which will be due at the end of each semester. 2 of these hours must be from a Beta-sponsored event that we will tell you about in meetings/emails.

If you would like to turn in your hours before the meeting, feel free to give them to an officer or drop them off in the manila folder outside Ms. Ely’s room (435).

We will be posting again soon about volunteer opportunities, so subscribe to our blog. You can also join the facebook group if you are not getting the emails.

JUNIORS ONLY– If you are interested in running for a state office position at convention, please email us back. We need to get started ASAP on skits and campaign techniques.

First Meeting of the Year

Hello Beta-ers!

We hope you all had a fantastic summer and are ready for the new year! Our first meeting will be this Wednesday morning at 7:45 in the auditorium, so please be on time.
This year, we will have an online registration form. You can find this right on the blog. Please fill this out so that we have all your information in the database.
Dues this year are simple: $10 for returning members, and $20 for new members. If you want a t-shirt this year (which our lovely historian Meredith McBee has already designed), just add an extra $7 to your dues. Please note that we only accept checks. We ask that you write your name on your check as well so we know who it came from.
Returning members– don’t forget to turn in your 10 summer hours.
Please try and bring checks and hours to the upcoming meeting. The deadline to get everything in will be September 28th, but we advise that you bring everything in early on.
If there is any confusion about what to do, please email us at nhsbeta2012@gmail.com. If you have SAT prep or any other zero period class that makes it impossible for you to come to meetings, please email us as well so we know to put you on the zero period list.

See you Wednesday!

Fundraiser for Japan

Hey guys!

Our next meeting is this Wednesday, March 23, in the auditorium at 7:45 am. We’ll pass out T-shirts and get sign-ups for the Japan Fundraiser.

JAPAN FUNDRAISER
All of next week, March 28 – April 1, we will have a booth set up during both lunches. Our plan is to raise $1,000 for the Japanese crisis by selling paper cranes. As you probably have guessed, the idea is to make 1,000 cranes as a symbol of wishing the Japanese a quick recovery from the disaster. We will display the cranes in the school cafeteria.

All of the proceeds will be sent to Japan through the American Red Cross.

Here’s what you can do to help:

  • Cut 6 inch x 6 inch squares from old MAGAZINES. This is what we will use as origami paper for the cranes. We need MANY of these!! Be mindful of which magazines you use… =) 20 squares = 1 hr. You can get a maximum of 5 hrs from this by cutting out 100 squares. Please bring them to the meeting on Wed!!
  • During both lunches, we need volunteers to man the table and collect donations. We will have sign-ups at Wednesday’s meeting.
  • Know how to fold cranes? We need your help!! We want to give students the opportunity to make their own cranes, so you will go around helping people make their cranes. You can also sit at the booth and make extras. Sign-ups will be at Wednesday’s meeting.

This is a Beta-sponsored event that EVERYONE can get involved in!! I know that with the help of every one of our 300+ members, we can easily surpass our goal of $1,000!

Thanks everyone! See you Wednesday! =)

First Meeting of 2011 =)

Hey everyone!

Our first meeting is Wed, Feb. 2 at 7:45 am. This will be the absolute last day to turn in fall hours, so don’t forget!

We are in the process of preparing for induction. This is for new members who will be formally inducted into the National Beta Club and will receive their official certificate/pin at the ceremony in March/April. In a few days or so, we will post a list of all the inductees. Once that list is up, PLEASE make sure you verify that your name, graduation year, and grade are all correct!

Many of you asked about T-shirts. They should be here by mid-February. And for anyone who’s curious, here’s what this year’s awesome design looks like:

Hope everyone had a restful winter break and extended snow break!

HOURS
We will be collecting your 15 fall hours until the end of January. Remember that at least one of those hours must be Beta-sponsored, meaning anything we’ve told you about via email, blog, meetings, etc. Here are several ways you can turn in hours:

  • Give it to one of our lovely officers. =]
  • Turn them in at our next meeting (to be announced shortly).
  • Put them in the manila envelope, not Ms. Ely’s desk, on the bulletin board in Ms. Ely’s room, 435.

***If you are on probation and haven’t cleared your situation with the officers, you must turn in 5 additional hours to get off the probation list.

CONVENTION

Congrats to our fellow Betas who will represent the Northview Beta Club at the Georgia Beta Convention in March! For the categories that are blank, no worries! We are in the process of finalizing the participants. There is a mandatory meeting for ALL convention attendees on Wednesday, Jan. 19. Time and place will be confirmed soon! You must attend the meeting to fill out important paperwork and turn in your $50 check (payable to Northview High School). IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND CONVENTION ON MARCH 4-5, LET US KNOW ASAP!

Because there’s so many people attending convention this year, we will need at least 1 parent chaperone and MANY parent volunteers for carpooling. Convention cannot happen without rides to/from the hotel!! So please ask your parents if they would be willing to chaperone/provide rides and let us know on Wed.
